What Is LDAR? And Why Is It So Important?

LDAR stands for Leak Detection And Repair. It is a program that identifies the leaks and emissions of gasses or liquids from the pipes or other equipment in chemical or petrochemical companies. These refer to the regulations of the US EPA (environmental protection agency) that surround the accidental emission of VOC (volatile organic compounds) and VHAP (volatile hazardous air pollutants). Though these rules are for various companies, the petroleum & chemical industries and the companies that provide LDAR leak detection services are the ones that are required to follow them strictly as they deal with the most dangerous liquids and gasses.
